Otomedics Tympanostomy U-Tube
The contact area of the arms of the U-Tube is located far from the rim of the perforation to spare the blood supply to it.
The collapse mechanism is activated by pulling the extraction arm. A weak part in the posterior arm then collapses and the tube can be easily removed.
The Otomedics Tympanostomy U-Tube is a medical grade silicone tube. It has been specially designed to overcome most of the drawbacks of the currently used tympanostomy tubes. To make it the first line tube for every middle ear ventilation/drainage problem it combines many advantages found separately in various types of tympanostomy tubes. It spares the blood supply to the rim of the perforation in the tympanic membrane around the tube by its unique arms' design (patented) that contact the inner aspect of the tympanic membrane away from the rim of the perforation.
It has a conical shaft that eases the cleaning of clogs, ultra-polished surface to prevent adherence of crusts and a unique collapse mechanism that makes the removal easy and painless. Due to this collapse mechanism this tube can easily be removed from children's ears in the office without anesthesia after softening it with saline drops for 15-30 minutes.
It is a long-term as well as a short-term one, with 1.35mm ID to enable easy drainage of pus.
